When your internet goes down
Be ready before it happens
- On each register computer or tablet, open rowanpos.app/register once and add it to the home screen (iPad: Share › Add to Home Screen) or bookmark it. It opens even with no internet. Rowan inside your CRM needs the CRM to load, so during an outage use this one, or keep the Register tab open.
- Know how to turn on your phone's hotspot, and practice connecting the card terminal to it once.
When the internet drops
A red bar appears: You're offline. Check your internet. Rowan keeps working:
- Cash sales are saved on the device (the bar shows how many are waiting). Give change as usual. Receipts, points and stock catch up when the internet is back.
- Card sales: the quickest fix is a hotspot. Turn on your phone's hotspot, connect the card terminal to it (open the terminal's Wi-Fi settings, choose your phone's hotspot and enter its password; if the settings ask for a password you don't have, call us), and connect the register computer or tablet to the same hotspot. Rowan and the terminal work normally over it.
- Things that need the internet wait until it's back: finding clients, gift card balances, manager PINs, booking, and texts.
Card sales with no internet at all (optional)
The owner can turn this on in POS settings › Offline mode after accepting the risk. While offline, the card button becomes Card run on terminal (offline): run the card on the terminal by itself, then enter the approval code, last 4 and any tip from the slip. Rowan can't confirm the card was approved. Once you're back online, these sales are listed (Check now in the bar) to match against your iPOSpays batch.
When the internet comes back
The bar turns green and saved sales are sent automatically, each only once. If a sale can't be sent (for example, a discount that needed a manager PIN), the bar says so and See why lets you try again.
